Trademark protection outside the Benelux
Trademark protection is essentially regulated by national legislation. The Benelux is an exception since the three Benelux countries have one common registration system, based on one common Benelux Verdrag inzake de intellectuele eigendom (BVIE). To obtain international trademarks protection one should therefore apply for registration in each and every country. Fortunately there are international treaties that facilitate this process.
